What are the Non-Technical jobs in IT?

In this post you will know the non-IT jobs in IT industry even though you are not good in technical but there are various great jobs to stick with IT. There are various opportunities for a non-technical student in an IT organization. Like any other company, IT companies also have different departments other than IT related work units. Some of the roles/departments are explained below. Depending on the non-technical bachelor's degree or masters degree, you can apply for these opportunities.

For any IT company, the primary source of revenue is through IT projects. Hence the primary functionality or the department is the business units related to technology verticals. The rest of the functions are secondary or operational functions that are required to run a company.

HR - Human resource department is important to any organization and it plays a big role in IT as well. You can be an HR in any IT company post your Masters or Bachelors degree.

Sales and Marketing - Similar to any industry like FMCG, Retail, Manufacturing, IT companies also have Sales and Marketing functions. Sales and Marketing generate leads or look for business opportunities, go to the market, do the sales, and get more business for any technological function. You need a bachelors degree or masters degree to get into Sales & Marketing roles. The roles can be Pre Sales analyst, Sales analyst, Account manager, Regional manager, content marketing analyst, content writer, marketing manager etc. The sales and marketing include corporate communications, PR etc as well.


Accounts & Finance - This is one of the core secondary functions of any company. Without the finance department, you will not get your salaries :). Usually, commerce graduates, chartered accountants or MBA in finance is preferred for these roles.

Operations & Facilities - These include company operations including infra, facilities, admin, transport etc.

Apart from the above mentioned secondary functions, there are a lot of opportunities for non-technical people in technical functions as well. Some of them are:

  • Business Analysts
  • Project management office (PMO)
  • Quality Assurance
  • Tech Support
  • SEO executive / Digital marketing
  • Data collection
  • Administration
